Spring 2016 Capsule Wardrobe

I am SUPER excited to share my spring capsule with y’all. And I’m especially excited that I’m finally wearing it! Winter lasted a bit too long, in my book. Just when I thought I could pack away all my winter wear mid-March, we had freezing temperatures again. So for about 2 weeks I had an everything-I-own capsule. But things have been consistantly warm so I felt safe packing up all of my winter clothing last week. My spring capsule will officially run March 31, 2016 – June 30, 2016, and it is composed of the following items:

  • 1 wrap sweater and 3 blazers
  • 9 tops, 3 jeans, and 4 shorts
  • 1 pair of tennis shoes, 1 pair of peep toe flats, and 1 pair of sandals
  • 1 bag, 1 scarf, and 2 belts
  • 2 necklaces (1 not pictured because I was wearing it), 1 bracelet, 1 watch, and 1 pair of earrings

All together, this season’s capsule totals just shy of the normal Project 333 items at 32 pieces. It took me probably 5 minutes to choose all of these items as many of these pieces have been a part of my spring look for years. 9 of the 32 pieces are from Lilly Pulitzer which just shouts SPRING to me. The rest are from my usual shops – J.Crew, Banana Republic, Ann Taylor, LOFT, Old Navy, and Target. I have really been dying to see examples of a color-filled capsule wardrobe. And after scouring the interwebs for years, I’ve found nothing to satisfy my preppy and bright nature. Where is my niche of Lilly Pulitzer-loving capsule ladies? Guess I’ll just have to start my own club and bring all y’all black & grey-wearers to the bright side! 😉

While the process of picking my spring capsule pieces came relatively easy, I still have a few rogue pieces that just don’t see a lot of wear. I love the look of blazers yet I always reach for a cardigan as a cover up. Yet I still managed to load my closet full of blazers over the years. For this season, I removed all of the usual spring/summer cardigans and replaced them with blazers. I will be challenging myself to wear these blazers not only as a cover up when it’s chilly, but as a part of my all-day outfit, as I would with a cardigan. I also find I have trouble wearing scarfs and long necklaces for the entire day. So the same challenge is imposed upon my scarf and long necklace; if I take them off repeatedly mid-day, it’s time to remove these items from my wardrobe. I’m also challenging myself to document my daily outfits. Flat lays can be a good way to introduce a capsule, but seeing the daily outfits is where the inspiration really comes from.

Are you adding any challenges to your spring capsule? Is your capsule full of neons and mom-cut shorts? Want to join my club? 😉 Thanks for reading!

xoxo Lauren

  1. Lauren, I love how much this capsule shouts Spring!! I’m inspired by all the colors. My spring wardrobe looks so much like my winter’s, and I’m still waiting to pick up a few things in the states at the end of this month (mostly for summer). And great job on having less than 33 items! I’m going to need more experience to whittle it down to that many. I love your take on blazers, scarves, and long necklaces – I’m the SAME way. I keep a blazer in my wardrobe every season but I seriously never wear it. It’s been serving as a just-in-case item for years. I may need to challenge myself, because it’s ALWAYS too easy to grab a cardigan! Or maybe it’s time to finally let go. Looking forward to seeing how this goes for you 🙂

  3. FINALLY read this post! Although Lilly isn’t really my thing, I love how vibrant all the colors are! I’ve been on this self rediscovery this last year and after my husband’s encouragement (bless him!), I’m getting reacquainted with my more vibrant, care free and colorful side. Yay! So who knows what my next few capsules will look like! 🙂

  4. I’m with you on colorful capsules! I can’t do neutrals only. I’d love for you to take a look at my post about my signature style. It’s how I dictated whats in my current wardrobe. I have (runs to room to count items)….74 items in my closet. That’s only including things I wear out the house (not gym clothes or lingerie). There may be a few more items in the laundry.

    Have courage,
